The South-Western Township (Soweto) is a melting pot of culture, art and history. There is a lot to do in this township but for those who only have a day to enjoy the full experience, here is a list of three things to do in Soweto. These activities will allow you to make the most of the experience.
Hector Pieterson Memorial Museum
The Museum is named after the schoolboy who was shot dead by the Apartheid police in 1976 during the Soweto Youth Uprising. This is a memorial to the young people who sacrificed their lives for a non-oppressive education system that would have meant that Afrikaans would become the medium of learning in all schools.
A decommissioned coal power-station located in Orlando Soweto that is characterised by its artwork which can be seen from all corners of the township. This will give you a birds eye-view of the township and also a great place for adrenaline pumping activities such as bungee jumping.
Ntsitsi Fun Foods
After a long day of history and adrenaline pumping activities there is nothing better than a kota to fill the belly.
